The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has asked the industry, particularly the small and medium enterprises in the state, to focus on agro-based industries to help farmers benefit from their produce.

The chief minister has asked the captains of the industries to promote the agro-based industries in a big way and assured them that the state government would extend all cooperation in promoting the industry in a big way.

The industry should focus on setting up food plants, food-processing units, bio-diesel project and other agro-based projects to enable the farmers to benefit immensely. "The state government will provide all support to those industries which focus on agro-based projects," Dr Reddy said.

Addressing the gathering at the annual award function of the Federation of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) on Saturday, Dr Reddy said that the state government would help the small and medium enterprises to come out of their shackles. "We try our best to help the 38,000-odd small scale industries and we will work with the FAPCCI to ensure the industry benefits," Dr Reddy said further.

"Our priority will be on agriculture, rural development, basic industries, power sector and infrastructure development," he said. The AP share during the previous regime is nothing proud of. Only four per cent of the total FDI come to Andhra Pradesh, he said.

The state government will encourage local industries to come forward and compete with the global majors. "The state government will provide the level-playing field to the SMEs to be more competitive and employment generation," he added.
