"He is not known for his comprehension of economics and finally he has confirmed...he has no vision. He has no global vision, no comprehension of geo-strategic issues. This is what he has exposed yesterday," the Minister told reporters here.
Sharma was commenting on Modi's vision for the country ahead of Lok Sabha election in which the Gujarat Chief Minister promised to develop 100 smart cities and set up IITs, IIMs and AIIMS in every state.
"He is a demagogue...I don't think he reads. I do not think he is even aware of what is happening in the country," Sharma said.
The minister further said the government is already doing what Modi had stated in his vision for the country.
"We already have increased the number of IITs, IIMs and National Institute Design, he said, adding, "Modi was repackaging what the Central government is already doing".
Sharma also said that the "much hyped speech" of Modi was in poor taste.
On Modi becoming Prime Minister, Sharma said the country is not that "unfortunate".
Answering questions on UPA's prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Sharma admitted that there were shortcomings in communicating the achievements of the Centre.
"We perhaps fell short of taking our bigger thoughts and achievements to the public. We had to be in constant touch with the people of the country. I think, this should have happened at the senior level. Now we have understand that and now we will talk more and people will understand," he said.
