Amazon's tops comScore charts among Indian price comparison websites

One-in-four online shoppers visit a price comparison website before making a purchase, says the latest report by internet analytics firm comScore. The value add for the users is that they no longer need to visit each website to check prices.

Comparison websites such as Junglee and Pricedekho, for most goods, and those like Ixigo for flight tickets, are amongst the most-visited, the report indicates.

The competition is tough among price comparison websites, as shown by comScore's data. It says that 19 new comparison shopping websites were launched between August 2012 and September 2013. These websites are vying for listings from a score of Indian shopping websites, 600 of which were launched in the same period, the comScore report says.

The website, which was launched in February 2012, has occupied the top slot for four consecutive quarters on comScore's charts, a streak that began in September 2012. is a service provided by ecommerce giant Amazon. It claims to have '30 million listings across 25 categories, from over 1,400 online shopping sites and 25,000 nearby stores'.

With over 16 per cent of reach among online users, it is expected to reach more users with audiences turning to online product and price comparison options. Junglee has been leading the category and now reaches over 5.5 million unique visitors a month (October 2013), said comScore senior director Kedar Gavane said.

Amazon's India website was launched in June this year. The company has been aggressively expanding the categories of products, with the home, kitchen and children's sections being the latest to appear on the site. Amazon India launched apps for online shoppers in the country on November 27.
