A coal-fired crisis

The Supreme Court has started deliberating on how the illegal allocation of coal blocks since 1993 should be dealt with. The production of coal has been adversely affected as a fallout of regulatory action to curb alleged irregularities in its allocation and the way it is mined. A report by Barclays Equity Research brings to light the urgency with which the government needs to bring the sector back on track as its contribution to national income declines and to current account deficit rises, reports Aveek Datta.
