Fortis to set up centres to treat metabolic diseases

Fortis Healthcare announced its foray into speciality medical centres, which will focus on the treatment of metabolic diseases, including diabetes and hormonal disorders.

These standalone centres will help expand Fortis's reach and capacity to meet the rising demand for quality healthcare services, Fortis Healthcare said in a statement.

"This is one of the many innovative offerings from Fortis; all of which are aimed to improve medical access and bring about patient-centric approach in healthcare," Fortis Healthcare CEO Bhavdeep Singh said.

A special purpose vehicle (SPV) has been floated for the purpose (to treat diabetes) in an affiliation with Anoop Mishra, who will be the executive chairman of the company, Fortis said.

The centres will offer holistic therapies and also support programmes to improve the outcomes and quality of life of patients suffering with diabetes and other metabolic diseases, the company said.

According to an estimate 51 million people are affected with diabetes in the country and the figure is likely to touch 80 million by 2030.

Shares of Fortis Healthcare today closed at Rs 145.20 on Bombay Stock Exchange, down 0.92 per cent from its previous close.
